About Me

Hey guys! I’m Jessica….

I’m a SoCal girl who likes the beach, grew up in the mountains, and lives in the city. Sound a little funky? Yeah that’s me… I grew up in a creative family – my dad, a fantastic Surf artist working with oil on canvas and my mom who is quite the chef. Just this last year I got married to my best friend and love of my life, Brandon. We’re definitely loving every minute of it!

So when I say grew up in the mountains I mean “really grew up in the mountains”. We lived 70 miles from the nearest city at a little place called Hume Lake Christian Camps in the Sierra Nevada. My mom was a full time homeschool teacher along with working on the High Ropes Course at Hume while my dad was the architect and all round camp creative person – painting the Summer theatrical sets and team posters. My dad must be why I’m mostley right brained – he’s the one who helped me find my creativity. They now live in San Diego – and I visit them every chance I get!

Now I live in the city… good old Orange County California. The great plains of cement and blacktop…. wonderful… Ok, just kidding… we have a cute little apartment that really feels like home. We hit up Disneyland in the evenings and take our beach cruisers to the beach regularly. From here we could hit the mountains and the beach in one day if we felt ambitious.

Some of my favorite things are sewing, sketching, and cooking – which brings me to why I made this nifty little blog in the first place….

Notions…
I’m pretty sure most of my inspiration started with my mom. She has been sewing since she was my age she even crafted her wedding dress! I remember my mom making dress-ups and costumes for me and my friends to play in as girls….. I guess you can say I never really grew out of that….  While she was sewing away I would sit at the table – jaw dropped – watching her whip together these amazing pieces of art that I actually got to wear. She noticed that I was incredibly interested and encouraged me to help her. So I began by helping to cut out patterns, then eventually learned how to work the sewing machine and hand stitch. Pretty soon I found my own patterns – some thought up creations in my head from movies or books, and others from the store. My mom was there with me from beginning to end of the entire process: pattern, to fabric, to cutting it out, to reading the directions and putting it all together. I am so thankful that she instilled in me this skill and love to create pretty things with fabric.

Non-Stick…
I LIKE TO EAT…. And my parents were both incredible cooks – my Dad on the BBQ and my Mom in the kitchen. Just like watching my mom sew I like watching her cook – plus I got to eat it afterward… :) I would sit in the kitchen completely mesmerized by what she was throwing together and how it tasted so amazing. Of course she put me to work reading her the recipes and then trying them out on my own. Pretty soon I was picking recipes out that I wanted to make, shopping for the ingredients and trying out new creations. My husband knows his way around the kitchen pretty well too. I love that he enjoys cooking with me! We pretty much always cook as a team in our house – and I love it! Brandon is very intuitive when it comes to food and is able to just whip things together without a recipe – often it tastes AMAZING but there’s still the occasional icky ones too.. haha!!

What do you hope this blog can do?
I hope this blog can, through some fun creativity, be able to inspire others to try something new and create something wonderful.

Jessica
